Dukes to open season with four non-conference tournaments

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University volleyball team announced its 2024 schedule Tuesday, which includes four non-conference tournaments followed by 18 Atlantic 10 Conference matches.

Under the tutelage of Steve Opperman, who enters his 27th season and is the winningest coach in program history, the Dukes will open its 2024 slate at the Towson-Morgan State Invitational on August 30-31 in Towson, Md.

Duquesne will face Saint Francis on Friday, August 30 before squaring off against the two hosts Towson and Morgan State on Saturday, August 31. The Dukes will host with Robert Morris, the Chick Fil-A Robinson Classic as they open competition on Friday, Sept. 6 against Niagara. Duquesne will battle Coppin State and RMU on Saturday, Sept. 7 to close competition. All three matches will be inside UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.

A trip to Morehead, Ky. for the Comfort Inn-Vitational is on tap for the Dukes on Sept. 13-14. DU will battle the host Morehead State and Evansville on Friday before concluding the weekend against Eastern Michigan. The Dukes will return home to host Mercyhurst (Sept. 17) for a non-conference match before hosting the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational (Sept. 20-21). Duquesne will take on Central Michigan before completing non-conference action against Canisius.

The Atlantic 10 will once again use a scheduling format that will see the Dukes play consecutive games against an opponent over one weekend without any return matches. The lone exception are matches versus Dayton, that will see the Dukes host the Flyers on Oct. 8 and play at UD on Oct. 29.

Atlantic 10 play begins on Sept. 27-28 when the Dukes welcome George Washington before heading to Saint Louis on Oct. 4-5. Duquesne returns to the Steel City for a match up against the Flyers of Dayton (Oct. 8) before traveling to Rhode Island on Oct. 12-13.

The Dukes feature three straight road matches, traveling to Davidson on Oct. 25-26 before heading to Dayton on Oct. 29. Duquesne returns to UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse for four consecutive home matches, beginning with Loyola Chicago (Nov. 1-2) before welcoming VCU (Nov. 8-9). DU closes out the regular season on the road when it travels to George Mason on Nov. 15-16.

The Atlantic 10 Championship, which will feature the conference's top six regular season finishers, will be held at Davidson's John M. Belk Arena on November 22-24.
