Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University men's basketball will take part in the 2024 Cayman Islands Classic Sunday, Nov. 24, through Tuesday, Nov. 26, at John Gray Gymnasium in George Town, Grand Cayman, it was announced Tuesday.
The Dukes are part of an eight-team field that also includes Boise State, Boston College, Hampton, High Point, Missouri State, Old Dominion and South Dakota State. Game-by-game matchups will be announced at a later date.
"We're excited to take part in the Cayman Islands Classic, which features a competitive field across the board," Duquesne head coach
Dru Joyce III said. "The tournament is an excellent opportunity early in the season for our team to compete at a high level while also continuing to bond as a program. We're appreciative of Caymax Sports Ltd. for the opportunity to play in such a great event."
Of the eight teams that make up the field of the 2024 Cayman Islands Classic, five appeared in the postseason last year. In addition to the Dukes, Boise State and South Dakota State participated in the 2024 NCAA Championship, Boston College appeared in the 2024 National Invitation Tournament (NIT) and High Point finished as the runner-up in the 2024 College Basketball Invitational (CBI).

The 2024 edition is the sixth in history of the Cayman Islands Classic, which is competed just minutes from Seven Mile Beach. South Dakota State (2017), Boise State (2018) and Old Dominion (2019) are each making its second appearance in the tournament, while Utah State claimed the championship of the 2023 Cayman Islands Classic. Other winners of the event include Cincinnati (2017), Creighton (2018), George Mason (2019) and Kansas State (2022).

Duquesne is under the direction of Joyce III, who was named the 18th head coach in the 108-year history of the program March 28, 2024. The Dukes return a pair of starters and nine letterwinners from a team that finished with an overall record of 25-12 (.676) last season, including a mark of 10-8 (.556) in the Atlantic 10. Thanks to four wins in five days in Brooklyn, N.Y., at the Barclays Center, Duquesne claimed its first A-10 Championship and subsequent bid to the NCAA Tournament since 1977.
The Dukes began summer workouts Monday in preparation for the 2024-25 season and welcome seven newcomers to the roster. Deposits for
