Duquesne Welcomes Seven for 2024-25 Season

Head Coach Dru Joyce III announces first recruiting class

Pittsburgh, Pa. – Duquesne University head men's basketball coach Dru Joyce III announced his first recruiting class Monday as the Dukes set their roster for the 2024-25 season. Joining Duquesne are seven newcomers, each of which have transferred into the program.

WELCOME BACK
Duquesne returns a pair of starters and nine letterwinners from a 2023-24 squad that finished with an overall record of 25-12 (.676), including a mark of 10-8 (.556) in the Atlantic 10. The Dukes claimed their first Atlantic 10 Championship and subsequent bid to the NCAA Tournament since 1977, and returning as starters from that group include junior forward David Dixon and sophomore guard Jake DiMichele. Dixon was one of four student-athletes to appear in all 37 games for Duquesne in 2023-24, providing averages of 7.2 points and 4.8 rebounds while blocking a team-high 60 shots. DiMichele, meanwhile, played in 30 contests and averaged 6.4 points and 2.5 rebounds per contest. In all, the Dukes welcome back 32.7 percent (853-of-2,611) of their scoring, 37.2 percent (479-of-1,288) of their rebounding and 33.4 percent (166-of-497) of their assists.

A total of seven new players join the roster for the 2024-25 campaign, including four guards, two forwards and a wing. Six of the seven are NCAA Division I transfers, while junior college transfer Brandon Hall began his career at East Tennessee State before playing last year at Howard College in Big Spring, Texas. THE TALLY
The six NCAA Division I transfers for Duquesne have combined for some lofty numbers entering the 2024-25 campaign. The Dukes welcome a total of 3,872 points, 1,810 rebounds, 482 assists and 237 steals, including one student-athlete that eclipsed career totals of 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. In three seasons at Chicago State, Corbett scored 1,303 points while grabbing 725 rebounds. He also owns 71 double-figure scoring games and 19 double-doubles.

THE TRIPLE-DOUBLE
Corbett saved some of the best basketball of his career for down the stretch of the 2023-24 season at Chicago State, as he scored in double figures in 14 consecutive games, averaging 19.0 points and 8.8 rebounds during that span while knocking down 53.6 percent (104-of-194) of his attempts from the floor. Nine times during that stretch Corbett scored 20 or more points, including career highs in points (27), rebounds (19) and assists (11) in registering a triple-double in a 131-55 victory over East-West in Chicago, Ill., at the Jones Convocation Center. Corbett also has experience playing at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse, as he led the Cougars with 21 points and 11 rebounds as the Dukes earned a 65-60 win over Chicago State in capping a perfect 3-0 homestand in their final non-conference contest of the year.

FAMILIAR FOES
Another pair of new Dukes also played against Duquesne last season in Crawford and Edwards. Crawford led the Thundering Herd off the bench with 20 points as Duquesne earned an 85-72 win at Marshall, while Edwards finished with 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocks against the Dukes in the 2023-24 regular-season finale, a 67-65 win for Duquesne on Senior Day at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse. In two seasons with the Revolutionaries, Edwards amassed career totals of 722 points and 413 rebounds. Named the 2023 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, Edwards logged 1,078 minutes as a freshman during the 2022-23 season, a total that ranked fourth in NCAA Division I among rookies.

BATTLE TESTED
In addition to the returning Dukes who helped Duquesne claim its first win in the NCAA Tournament since 1969, Williams brings postseason experience to the 2024-25 roster. During the 2022-23 season, Williams helped Furman advance to the second round of the NCAA Championship. In the title game of the 2023 Southern Conference (SoCon) Championship, Williams finished with 12 points and six rebounds for the Paladins in an 88-79 win over Chattanooga. He also added six points in a 68-67 triumph over No. 4 seed Virginia in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Championship before contributing 11 points and six rebounds in the second round against San Diego State. Williams, a native of Dayton, Ohio, ranked in the top 20 last season in the SoCon in both scoring and rebounding with per game averages of 13.2 points and 4.8 rebounds, respectively.

THE THIRD FOR THREE
Duquesne should get a boost from behind the arc with the addition of Dinkins, who finished seventh in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) last season in scoring (15.4 ppg) en route to earning 2024 All-MAAC Third Team accolades. Dinkins finished third in the conference in three-point field goals made per game (2.66) and ninth in three-point field goal percentage (.365) for the Golden Griffins. He is also adept at the free-throw line, as he owns a career shooting percentage of 79.4 percent (85-for-107) from the chalk after finishing sixth in the MAAC last season at 78.6 percent (66-for-84).

FRESH FACE
While Corbett will enter the 2024-25 season with 19 double-doubles to his credit, Wilborn brings with him to the Bluff eight double-doubles during his rookie campaign at Saint Francis U, which paced the Northeast Conference (NEC). In averaging 10.8 points and 7.4 rebounds per game last year, Wilborn was named to the 2024 All-NEC Rookie Team. He led the conference in offensive rebounds with an average of 2.93 per contest and finished third in the circuit in rebounding overall as well as third in blocks (47) and blocks per game (1.57).

KIDS IN THE HALL
Joining Duquesne from the ranks of junior college is Hall, who played 18 games last season at Howard College, averaging 16.4 points and converting 41.9 percent (99-for-236) of his shots from the floor. He eclipsed the 30-point plateau on a pair of occasions, including a 36-point effort against Southwestern Christian College as well as 33 points against Temple College. In the win over the SWC, Hall shot 11-of-15 from the floor, including 3-for-5 from beyond the arc, while knocking down 11 of his 12 attempts at the free-throw line. Hall began his career at East Tennessee State before heading to Moberly Area Community College for the 2022-23 season and then Howard College.

JERSEY SWAP
The seven newcomers for Duquesne join nine returnees, including junior guard Kareem Rozier, who will change his uniform number to three (3) in 2024-25. Rozier wore 32 the last two years, with sophomore guard Ethan Anish moving to Rozier's old number. Rozier averaged 5.2 points during the 2023-24 campaign and owns a career assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.50 thanks to 155 dimes against 62 turnovers. Also returning for the Dukes in 2024-25 are forwards Halil Barre, Matúŝ Hronský and Jakub Necas and guards Seamus McDermott and Lucas Perusek.
