PITTSBURGH -- The Duquesne University lacrosse team dropped a mutual Atlantic 10 Conference opener, 20-9, against No. 23 ranked Richmond on Saturday afternoon at Rooney Field.
The Spiders came out firing with four straight goals in the opening five minutes and took a 10-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Dukes held Richmond to just one goal in the second frame and went on a 3-0 scoring run to bring the score to 11-7 at the 11:45 mark in the third quarter.
The margin remained at four over the ensuing nine minutes, during which Richmond made three saves including on two free position attempts.
The Spiders got back on the board with a shorthanded goal with less than three minutes remaining in the third quarter. The score sparked a 4-0 run as Richmond closed the game with an 8-2 fourth quarter.
Jillian Caroselli paced the Dukes offense with a career-high four goals on five shots, including a 2-for-2 effort from the free position. Caroselli added an assist for five points - also a career-best.Â

Tristen Chang,
Emma Raines,
Haley Reeck, and
Charlotte Stamper all had one score apiece to round out the scoring for Duquesne. Chang (2) and Leszczynski also dished out assists.
The Dukes went 4-for-7 on free position shots in the game. Leszczynski and Reeck along with Caroselli (2) accounted for the FP scores.
Rachel O'Toole started in net and was charged with the loss.
Megan LaBorne played the final 48 minutes and made six saves.
UP NEXT
Duquesne will begin a two-game conference road trip next Saturday (Mar. 16) at George Washington. Start time is scheduled for 12 pm.
