CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Duquesne University lacrosse team had its five-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday afternoon, falling 14-5 at Queens University Charlotte.
The Royals starting goalkeeper Caroline Kraemer made a career-high 14 saves to shut down the Dukes offense, which outshot Queens 33-29 overall and 20-19 on goal.
Haley Reeck, a junior transfer from Louisville, made her first appearance in a Duquesne uniform and led the Dukes with two goals on five shots. Reeck got her first score as a Duke just outside of the crease off an assist by
Tristen Chang at the 2:21 mark in the second quarter, then tallied DU's final goal of the game on a free position attempt with 1:20 remaining.
Mackenzie Leszczynski scored her 17th goal of the season on Duquesne's first possession of the game, less than two minutes in. Leszczynski has now scored in six straight games. Queens answered with a 7-0 scoring spree to take control and took an 8-2 advantage into the break.
Emma Raines and
Jillian Caroselli added second-half scores.
Ali Evans dished out the assist on Caroselli's goal - the third straight game with a point for the freshman.
Caroselli and Chang extended their point streaks to five and four games, respectively.
The Royals finished the game 5-for-7 from the free position, while Duquesne was held to 1-for-3.
Rachel O'Toole (36:05) and
Megan LaBorne (23:55) split time in goal. O'Toole started and was charged with the loss.
The Dukes defense created a +9 turnover margin (21-12).
