Pittsburgh, Pa. – Junior
Lindsey Powanda of the Duquesne University women's golf team was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week in the final weekly honors of the 2024 fall season.
Powanda, who is in her first year competing in NCAA Division I golf, was honored for her play in the final fall competition of 2024 for Duquesne at the UNCG Collegiate in late October.
In the 54-hole tournament at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., Powanda finished at 230 (+14) to tie for 28th individually. She opened with a 77, posted her best score in round two by handing in a 74 before closing the tournament with a 79. Powanda registered five birdies during the event, including two on back-to-back holes in the second round.
Three of Powanda's five birdies at the UNCG Collegiate came on a par five, including No. 11. The longest hole on the course at 504 yards, she notched a birdie on the hole in each of the first and second rounds.
Powanda is the second member of the Dukes to earn
Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week accolades in the program's first fall season. She joins freshman
Sasha Petrochko, who is a
three-time A-10 Rookie of the Week and also earned
Atlantic 10 Golfer of the Week honors. The accolade for Powanda after her performance at the UNCG Collegiate left Duquesne a perfect 4-for-4 in Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week nods in the fall season, as a student-athlete for the Dukes was honored after each of the four tournaments.
A junior academically, Powanda signed with the Dukes in the fall of 2023 after spending two years as an undergraduate student at the University of Pittsburgh, which does not sponsor women's golf as an NCAA Division I program. In 10 rounds this fall, Powanda ranked second for Duquesne with an average score of 78.0.
Led by head coach
Colleen Meyers, the Dukes will open their championship season in the spring of 2025 by taking part in the Columbia Classic. The 54-hole tournament is set for Saturday, Feb. 8, with 36 holes at Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Fla., and concludes Sunday, Feb. 9, with 18 holes.
