Pittsburgh, Pa. – Freshman
Sasha Petrochko of the Duquesne University women's golf program was bestowed Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week plaudits for the third time Monday. Petrochko has garnered a total of four A-10 weekly accolades for the Dukes through the first three competitions of the 2024-25 season, as in addition to her
three rookie honors she was also
named Atlantic 10 Golfer of the Week.
At the Red Flash Invitational last week in Westmont, Pa., at Sunnehanna Country Club, Petrochko took home medalist honors. She opened the 36-hole event with a 78 (+6) before recording the first round under par in program history in round two. Posting all five of her birdies during the tournament on a par five, Petrocko, a native of Hermitage, Pa., fired a 70 (-2) in round two, including three birdies and a bogey, to close the tournament at 148 (+4).
Helen Brodahl of Stonehill sat in first place entering the second round of the Red Flash Invitational, opening with a 73 (+1). On the second day of competition she finished at 76 (+4), allowing Petrochko to claim the individual crown.
Petrochko was the only student-athlete during the tournament to notch a round under par thanks to her 70 in round two that helped her earn medalist honors, which helped guide the Dukes to a finish of fourth place at the Red Flash Invitational with a score of 641. It marked the first top five finish in program history for Duquesne.
Led by head coach
Colleen Meyers, the Dukes conclude the fall portion of their inaugural season by traveling to Greensboro, N.C., to take part in the UNCG Collegiate. The tournament begins Monday, Oct. 21, at Forest Oaks Country Club and concludes Tuesday, Oct. 22.
