Opening Tip

- The Duquesne University men's basketball team returns home to the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse Tuesday to host Milwaukee in a 7:00 p.m. tip.

- The Dukes are coming off an 84-58 setback at DePaul in their first true road game of the 2024-25 season. Duquesne jumped out to leads of 10-2 and 16-9 before the Blue Demons grabbed a 37-31 advantage at halftime. DePaul shot 53.7 percent (29-for-54) from the field en route to the win, including 52 percent (13-for-25) from beyond the arc.

- Redshirt junior guard Maximus Edwards led the Dukes against the Blue Demons with 13 points, while sophomore guard Jake DiMichele supplied 11 points off the bench in his first double-figure scoring effort of the 2024-25 campaign.

- Tuesday marks the first 7:00 p.m. tip for the Dukes this season, as their season opener and game at DePaul both tipped at 8:00 p.m., while their tilt against Princeton as part of the Jersey Jam in Trenton, N.J., was an 8:30 p.m. tip.

- The 2024-25 season marks the 109th year of Duquesne basketball. The Dukes started play in 1913-14 (DU did not field a team in 1944-45-46 due to World War II). Duquesne, which has posted back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since 1971 & 1972, is looking to record three consecutive 20-win campaigns for the first time since finishing with four straight 20-win seasons from 1952 to 1955. The Dukes are also 14 wins shy of 1,500 as an NCAA program.

- The active leading scorer for Duquesne is junior forward David Dixon, who has scored 402 points since the beginning of the 2022-23 season. Junior guard Kareem Rozier, meanwhile, has scored 346 career points on the Bluff.

- In three seasons with the Dukes, Rozier has handed out 163 assists against 65 turnovers, an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.51.

- Duquesne takes part in the Cayman Islands Classic after hosting the Panthers with three games in three days in George Town, Grand Cayman, Nov. 24-26.

At The Helm – Dru Joyce III was named the 18th head coach in the 109-year history of Duquesne basketball March 28, 2024. Joyce III, a native of Akron, Ohio, spent two seasons as associate head coach for the Dukes under Keith Dambrot from 2022 to 2024, helping guide Duquesne to an overall record of 45-25 (.643), including a 20-16 (.556) mark in the Atlantic 10, during that span. The Dukes made an appearance in the 2023 College Basketball Invitational (CBI) before earning the automatic bid for the A-10 in the 2024 NCAA Championship by winning four games in five days en route to the 2024 Atlantic 10 Championship crown in Brooklyn, N.Y., at the Barclays Center. Duquesne, as a No. 11 seed, made its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1977 and earned its first victory in the championship since 1969 thanks to a 71-67 win over No. 6 seed BYU in Omaha, Neb., at CHI Health Center Arena.

Mason, who finished with 26 points in the triumph, hit a layup with 46 seconds to go to put the Dukes ahead and added a pair of free throws with 10 seconds remaining in OT to seal the win ... Coulter scored a career-high 27 for Duquesne before fouling out with 2:36 left in overtime ... Eric James added 15 points and Darius Lewis 11 in the win as the Dukes shot 64.8 percent (35-for-54) from the field ... DePaul Leftovers – The Blue Demons lead the all-time series against the Dukes, 16-14 (.533) ... Earning his first start of the 2024-25 season as well as his first in a Duquesne uniform was guard Tre Dinkins III ... The Dukes opened the game 4-for-6 from beyond the arc but finished 6-for-22 (27.3%) overall, including 0-for-7 in the second half … DePaul owned a 40-26 edge on the glass ... Forward Jakub Necas tied for team-high honors in rebounds (5) and set a career high in assists (4) ... Duquesne shot 35.7 percent (20-for-56) from the floor and 60 percent (12-for-20) at the free-throw line ... DePaul owned a 22-6 advantage in second-chance points.

Depth Charge – A total of six different Dukes have scored in double figures in the first three games of the 2024-25 season, proving the length the lineup owns. The latest student-athlete to join the fray was sophomore guard Jake DiMichele, who supplied 11 points off the bench at DePaul. DiMichele shot 5-for-12 from the field, including 1-for-4 from beyond the arc, against the Blue Demons and in the first three games of the 2024-25 campaign has converted 45.8 percent (11-for-24) of his shots from the floor. The double-figure scoring effort at DePaul also marked the ninth of his career.

David On The Block – Junior forward David Dixon ranked seventh in the Atlantic 10 last year with an average of 1.62 blocks per game and also finished the year with 38 of the 83 dunks (45.8%) for Duquesne. Dixon is just 22 dunks shy of becoming the second member of the Dukes on record with 100 to his career credit after registering his first of the season at DePaul. The most in program history is Damian Saunders, who rattled the rim 166 times during his career from 2008 to 2011. In addition, Dixon is just 11 rejections shy of 100 career blocks, owning an average of 1.33 blocks per contest in his 67 career games on the Bluff.

Did You Know? The Dukes finished 12-0 last season when first to reach 70 points against an opponent and have won 31 consecutive games when turning the trick.

Paint By Numbers – Duquesne has done a solid job attacking the basket in its first three games of the 2024-25 season, averaging 30.0 points in the paint. Included in that average is 38 points in the lane in the 2024-25 season opener against Lipscomb. To put that into perspective, the Dukes exceeded that number just four times during the 2023-24 season, finishing 4-0 when scoring at least 40 points in the paint in a game. The frontcourt trio of wing Jahsean Corbett and forwards David Dixon and Eli Wilborn have combined to convert 51.9 percent (28-of-54) of their shots from the field through the opening three games. Wilborn leads Duquesne at 64.3 percent (9-for-14) while averaging 11.7 minutes per contest.
