Opening Tip

- The Duquesne University men's basketball team opens a three-game homestand at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse Tuesday, Jan. 23, with a 7:00 p.m. tip against St. Bonaventure.

- The Dukes, who have lost three Atlantic 10 games by five points or less, are coming off a 71-69 setback at Saint Joseph's. Cameron Brown converted a layup with 0.3 seconds left off an offensive rebound to lift the Hawks to the win.

- Senior guard Jimmy Clark III paced Duquesne at St. Joe's with 21 points while adding three rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals, while freshman guard Jake DiMichele scored all 11 of his points in the first half while also posting four rebounds and a block.

- Forward Fousseyni Drame reached the 1,000-point plateau at Saint Joseph's thanks to a free throw with 47 seconds remaining in the first half and contributed nine points and four rebounds against the Hawks. Drame enters Tuesday's game with 1,008 career points.

- Forward Tre Williams has scored 961 career points at the NCAA Division I level and is 39 shy of reaching the 1,000-point threshold. Forward Andrei Savrasov is also within striking distance of 1,000 career points with 958, including 107 this year with the Dukes.

- Guard Dae Dae Grant has missed the last two games for Duquesne, snapping a streak of 48 consecutive games and starts for the Dukes. Guard Jimmy Clark III now owns the longest streak for consecutive games (50) and starts (37).

- Despite its first loss of the 2023-24 season when holding its opponent to under 70 points in a 63-61 loss to Richmond, Duquesne is 62-17 (.785) under Keith Dambrot when turning the trick, including 6-1 (.857) this year.

- Duquesne also hosts Fordham (Jan. 27) and Chicago State (Jan. 31) as part of its homestand to close out the month of January.

Scouting the Bonnies – Tuesday marks the 132nd game between the two programs in a series that dates to Feb. 13, 1920. St. Bonaventure is Duquesne's most frequent all-time opponent. The average score in the first 131 meetings? DU 71.7, SBU 70.9 (9,395 to 9,288 points, 107-point difference). This is the 73rd consecutive season the two are meeting and 19th straight year the two are meeting home-and-home. DU owns more conference wins over SBU (33) than any other A-10 school. St. Bonaventure, which has won 20 the past 24 games overall, leads the series 70-61, including a 43-33 advantage in A-10 regular season games and 4-2 edge in A-10 Championship meetings. In the last meeting between the two programs, Duquesne earned a 56-54 win at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse, surviving a field goal attempt in the waning moments by the Bonnies before 3,333 fans. Jimmy Clark III and Dae Dae Grant led Duquesne with 12 points and four steals each, while Kareem Rozier added 11 off the bench for the Dukes.

Head Coach Keith Dambrot (Seventh Year at Duquesne | 26th Year Overall) – Keith Dambrot, who built Akron into one of the most successful - and most respected - programs in the Mid-American Conference over 13 seasons, was named head men's basketball coach at Duquesne University on March 28, 2017. The veteran coach wasted no time making an impact on the DU program with 65 wins in his first four seasons. He became just the fourth head coach in program history to reach 100 victories thanks to a 95-47 win over Cleary, and his two 20-win seasons - in just six years - are tied for the third-most in program history. Dambrot reached a significant career milestone on Feb. 8, 2023 when he posted his 500th career victory with a 75-52 triumph over George Mason. Dambrot owns an overall record of 513-301 (.630) during his career as a head coach, and his father, Sid, was part of Duquesne teams that finished ranked in the Associated Press Top 10 in 1952 (No. 4), 1953 (No. 9) and 1954 (No. 5). The 1954 team, which went 26-3, made it to No. 1 in the AP poll for two weeks in February of 1954. The Dukes played in both the NCAA tournament and NIT in 1952 and the NIT in both 1953 and 1954.

Saint Joseph's Leftovers – The Hawks stretched their advantage in the all-time series to 43-19 (.694) ... Christ Essandoko, who entered the game averaging 6.9 points per game, registered his first collegiate double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds for St. Joe's ... The Hawks owned their biggest lead, 29-18, with 9:01 left before the break before the Dukes trimmed their deficit to 40-38 at halftime ... Duquesne owned a 67-65 lead with 2:41 remaining after a three-point play from Fousseyni Drame ... Saint Joseph's owned a 35-34 edge on the glass, with both teams finishing with 10 offensive rebounds ... No rebound loomed larger than the offensive carom from Cameron Brown, who grabbed the missed shot from Lynn Greer III for the putback and the win ... The Dukes posted 10 assists against 11 turnovers, while the Hawks finished with 11 assists and 10 turnovers ... Off the bench forward Matúŝ Hronský supplied season highs in points (7) and rebounds (3).

Clark Bar – Senior guard Jimmy Clark III tied for game-high honors with 21 points at Saint Joseph's, converting eight of his 19 shots from the field, including a 5-for-10 performance from beyond the arc. It marked the fourth time this season Clark has eclipsed the 20-point plateau as well as the seventh time in two seasons at Duquesne, with the Dukes 4-3 (.571) in those contests. Clark III enters Tuesday's game against St. Bonaventure having reached double figures in 10 consecutive games, as he has averaged 16.4 points, 3.1 assists and 2.2 steals per game over that stretch while shooting 44.1 percent (56-for-127) from the field. Clark III has scored 810 career points at the NCAA Division I level, including 680 in 50 games (13.6 ppg) in two seasons with the Dukes. Clark III has also registered at least two steals in 12 of Duquesne's 17 games this season and leads the Atlantic 10 with 39 thefts, an average of 2.29 per game that also ranks 25th in NCAA Division I.

Distributing – Sophomore guard Kareem Rozier has done a solid job directing the offense since Duquesne has moved into Atlantic 10 play, as through the first five league games he has dished out 16 assists against just five turnovers, an assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.20 that ranks fourth in A-10 only games. Joining senior guard Jimmy Clark III as the only members of the Dukes to start all 17 games in 2023-24, Rozier averages 2.94 assists per game to go along with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.78. During his two seasons on the Bluff, Rozier possesses a career assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.74 (118 assists vs. 43 turnovers).
