PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne University women's soccer team won on Thursday night, 1-0, against FDU in its last non-conference home match at Rooney Field.
The game started off as a defensive stalemate with the score being 0-0 through the first 30 minutes until a lightning delay halted the game.
The stalemate did not last long after the delay, as the Dukes (3-4) responded quickly against the Knights (0-7) to break the ice in the 33
rd minute of the game just three minutes after the game returned to action. Sophomore forward
Brianna Moore received a pass from
Morgan Kulniszewski and placed a beautiful shot into the top corner around 18 yards out to make the game 1-0.
Duquesne took that momentum and rode it until half time holding onto a one-goal lead against FDU.
The Dukes got some more chances including a pass in between two defenders that landed perfectly on the feet of
Libby Majka but a great save and an offsides violation kept the game at one goal.
Maya Matesa was the team leader for shots with six shots being a catalyst for generating pressure on the Knights. Â
Maddy Neundorfer played all 90 minutes and made two saves on route to a clean sheet.
Duquesne will look to keep the winning ways going with its next matchup against Kent State on Sunday at Dix Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
