PITTSBURGH— Duquesne goalkeeper
Maddy Neundorfer made eight saves for the second straight game and posted her third shutout in tandem with the Dukes defensive unit as the Duquesne University women's soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw against Loyola Chicago on Sunday afternoon at Rooney Field.
The Ramblers (4-5-1, 0-1-1) applied pressure throughout the first half against the Dukes with Duquesne (3-5-2, 0-0-2) getting outshot 7-2. DU stood strong and went into halftime with the score sitting at a stalemate thanks to Neundorfer making four saves.
Despite the chances being few in the first half the Dukes made the most of their two chances with great shots from midfielder
Mackenzie Muir with both shots being on goal. Muir was the only Duke to record multiple shots in the game.
DU came out in the second half firing on all cylinders with a shot from
Anna Bundy that Ramblers keeper Naya Lipkens barely gets a piece of the ball to keep the game 0-0 in the 49th minute.
The Dukes added chances with close shots from
Margey Brown in the 53rd minute and
Emily Eustace in the 75th minute that just barely missed the frame. After the Dukes defense prevailed from nine consecutive Loyola shots over the 11 minute span from 76' to 87',
Brianna Moore gave it one more try to put the Dukes on the board in the 88th minute but the shot went high.
Along with a gritty defensive performance by the DU back line, Neundorfer tied her season high in saves in back-to-back outings making eight saves to preserve the shutout against the Ramblers.
Loyola Chicago led the shot department 18-7 and 8-4 on goal and had a 6-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities, but the Dukes defensive never gave in.
Duquesne will be on the road Thursday against Rhode Island at Meade Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00 P.M.
