PITTSBURGH – Head Football Coach
Jerry Schmitt has announced the return of
Mickey Jacobs to the Dukes' sideline for the upcoming 2023 season. Jacobs will serve as the Safeties Coach and Special Teams Coordinator.
"We are excited to welcome Mickey back to the Duquesne Football family," said Coach Schmitt. "He made a positive impact on our program as a player and young coach, then continued to grow as a coach and mentor at FBS programs the past few years. We are thrilled to have him join our staff as we prepare for the upcoming season."
A 2017 Duquesne graduate, Jacobs was a four-year linebacker for the Dukes. He was a member of three NEC championship teams and an FCS playoff appearance in 2015.
After graduation, Jacobs interned with the DU Strength and Conditioning staff, then was the Dukes' defensive quality control coach in 2018.
"My family and I are extremely excited and humbled for the opportunity to come back to the city of Pittsburgh," said Jacobs. "It is a dream come true to coach at my alma mater and work for such an influential person in my life, Coach Schmitt. I look forward to working with our student athletes, winning championships and developing life long relationships on the Bluff — Go Dukes!"
Jacobs made the move crosstown to Pitt after his first stint at Duquesne, where he spent the past four seasons with the last two as a defensive graduate assistant. While working with the defensive unit, the Panthers ranked second nationally in sacks, sixth in rushing defense and eighth in interceptions on way to winning the 2021 ACC championship. During the first two seasons at Pitt, Jacobs was a recruiting graduate assistant and played an integral role in signing the 2021 class, which was ranked No. 22 nationally by Rivals.
Prior to his return to Duquesne, Jacobs was the Senior Defensive Analyst at Buffalo this past spring.
The Pittsburgh native and Fox Chapel Area HS alum holds a bachelor's degree in communications from DU.
