PITTSBURGH – Freshman
Madelyn Moretti set a school record with a 14.48m mark in the shot put, winning the event and highlighting the Duquesne women's track and field team's trip crosstown to the Carnegie Mellon University Last Chance Meet.
On her first throw of the finals, Moretti launched the 14.48m (47' 6") shot put and knew right away it was a good one, bursting into a smile. The mark was made and the measurement was announced, only to be followed by a "that's a school record" shout from the Duquesne sideline. Moretti also went over the 14-meter mark in her sixth, and final, attempt and now owns the #1, #3, #4, and #5 spots on the top-five all-time list at DU, just a handful of meets into her first season in the Red and Blue. Today's 14.48m shot put eclipsed Ashley Adams' record of 14.21m set back in 2010.
Junior
Rachel Koonmen finished in second place in the shot put, behind the record-setting Moretti, with a personal-best 13.03m (42' 9"), recorded on her second attempt.
Moretti was not done after the shot put, as she took her talents over the discus circle and finished in second place with a 37.59m (123' 3") throw. Teammate
Ezra Johnson-Mills was right behind in discus with a 36.08m (118' 4") mark in third place.
The Dukes took spots two, three, and four in the 3000m run with senior
Hannah Dieterle (11:26.94) in second, junior
