PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne University lacrosse team fell to Central Michigan at home on Tuesday evening, 19-8.
Duquesne is now 1-5 on the year while CMU moves to 2-4.
Despite the final score, Duquesne nearly matched CMU in shots (36-33) and had one more shot on goal than the Chippewas (26-25). Each team had 15 draw controls and Duquesne had 14 ground balls compared to CMU's 15.
Sophomore attacker
Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw recorded her fifth-straight hat-trick, scoring four goals to lead the team. She now has a team-leading 21 goals.
Freshman midfielder
Chelsea Evans had two goals, recording her fourth multi-goal game of her young career. She also tallied an assist.
Sophomore midfielder
Mackenzie Leszczynski also had a multi-point game, scoring a goal and dishing out an assist.
Central Michigan got off to a good start, going up 4-1 just eight minutes into the game. Duquesne got one goal back to make it 4-2, but a CMU goal with seven seconds left in the first quarter put the Dukes behind by three after 15 minutes.
Duquesne started the second with two-straight goals, but CMU came back with four of its own. At halftime, Duquesne trailed 9-5.
Each team scored once early in the second half, but Central Michigan ran away with things after that. The Chippewas scored seven-straight to take a commanding 17-6 lead.
Duquesne will be back in action on Saturday at noon on Saturday at Davidson.
