DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Duquesne University lacrosse team lost its A-10 opener at Davidson on Saturday afternoon, losing 19-7.
Duquesne is now 1-6 on the year while Davidson moves to 6-2.
The Dukes ran into a Davidson team that was firing on all cylinders today. The Wildcats jumped out to a lead right away and never gave it up, keeping the pressure on Duquesne's defenders all 60 minutes.
Sophomore attacker
Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw and sophomore midfielder
Mackenzie Leszczynski each had a pair of goals and an assist. Rodriguez-Shaw now has a team-leading 23 goals this season.

Miranda Held scored her first goal of the season today while freshman defender
Casey McBride scored the first goal of her career. Freshman midfielder
Chelsea Evans tallied her 13
th goal of the year, which is the third-most on the team.
Duquesne caused 14 turnovers compared to 10 by Davidson. The Dukes also had more ground balls than the Wildcats (20-17).
Davidson jumped out to a 4-0 lead and forced Duquesne to take a timeout less than five minutes into the game. Duquesne got one back, then the scoring slowed down for the rest of the quarter. After 15 minutes, Davidson led 4-1.
The Wildcats' offense got back in a groove in the second quarter and put eight goals in the back of the net. At halftime, Davidson led by 12.
Despite the big deficit, there was no quit in the Dukes. They outscored Davidson in the third quarter, 3-2, but Davidson's offense returned in the fourth. By the end of the game, Davidson's lead would grow back to 12 goals and the Wildcats would go on to win, 19-7.
Duquesne will be back in action one week from today at home against Saint Joseph's. The game is set to begin at noon ET.
