PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne University men's and women's track and field teams are headed across town to compete in the CMU Invite on Friday and Saturday at Carnegie Mellon University.
The Dukes began the outdoor season last week at the Charlotte 49er Classic in North Carolina with a slew of personal bests and top-10 finishes.
Haley Hamilton won the 3000m race and freshman
Madelyn Moretti placed second in the shot put to highlight opening weekend for the women's team. Moretti was honored as the Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week and her second-place 13.98m / 45-10 ½ shot put also was good for second all-time at DU.
On the men's side, freshman
Matt DeMatteo placed fourth in the 400m hurdles with a 54.50, good for third all-time at Duquesne in his first collegiate meet. The 4x800 relay team with
Jack Barnhisel,
Ben Colli,
Will Lamb, and
Joseph Grabill, ran to a second-place finish with a 7:56.06 and
David Williams had the top individual placement of opening weekend for the Dukes earning bronze in the 400m with a 48.62.
