­­­­­­PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne men's tennis team took down Saint Joseph's, 4-2, on Saturday in its Atlantic 10 Conference opener at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center.
 
The Dukes (6-4, 1-0) took the early lead winning the first two doubles matches, both by two sets, to secure the first point. David Georgadze and Tamirlan Teberikov earned the victory in the top spot, 6-4, then Kaipo Marshall and Jin Dassanayake battled out a 7-5 win in the #2 position to clinch doubles for Duquesne.
 
Saint Joseph's (5-3, 0-2) made it a battle in the singles portion, but Duquesne was able to win spots #1, #4, and #5 to put the match out of reach. Marshall took the win in the top position in three sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-2). Then after a pair of Hawks victories, Dassanayake and Vasquez posted two-set sweeps for the Dukes win. Dassanayake rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 victory at #4 and Vasquez edged out a 7-6 set two win after claiming the opener 6-1.
 
Duquesne will host Saint Francis for Senior Day next Saturday (March 25) at 4 pm inside the Alpha Tennis and Fitness of Pittsburgh.
