Women's Tennis Wins First Match of the Spring Over Carnegie Mellon

PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne University women's tennis team won its first match of the Spring on Friday night, defeating Carnegie Mellon, 5-2. Duquesne moves to 1-2 with the victory.

The Dukes got off to a hot start, sweeping the three doubles matches to grab an early point. Graduate student Margot Pessy and senior Daniela Latoni dominated, winning their match 6-0. Junior Ellen Shanahan and graduate student Anastasiia Kotsyuba won their match 7-6 while senior Natasha Novak and junior Ana Utrilla Benito won 6-3.

In singles, Latoni won 6-2, 6-3, and Kotsyuba won 6-3, 7-5. Freshman Jasa Roka improved to 3-0 on the season with another victory, winning 6-2, 6-4 as the No. 6. Shanahan picked up the Dukes' fourth singles win by a score of 6-1, 6-1.

The Dukes will be back on the court tomorrow at 5:00 P.M. ET to battle against St. Francis - Brooklyn in a doubleheader with the men's team.
