Men’s Soccer Fends Off Late Rally for 3–2 Win in Non-Conference Finale

Nate Dragisich breaks program record for career matches played

PITTSBURGH - Duquesne struck early and often on Wednesday night, scoring three goals in the first 62 minutes. This was enough to survive a late surge from Wright State, as the Dukes took the non-conference finale by a 3-2 scoreline from Rooney Field.

Ask Ekeland tacked on the third goal in the second half when he launched the ball past Juhl-Larsen from over 40-yards out. Ekeland's highlight reel goal from near midfield put the Dukes up 3-0, however it would go down as the game-winner as the Raiders mounted a late comeback to get within one but the DU defense stood strong in the final minutes to hold on for the win.

Tate Mohney scored two goals in the first 22 minutes to kickstart the Dukes. Mohney's first goal came at the 15-minute mark when he received a pass for Ask Ekeland from beyond the box. He turned and moved to his right before he fired it to the far-left side of the net past Oscar Juhl-Larsen. The second goal came as a result of a long stretch pass by Ekeland to the left side of the pitch. Mohney made his way into the box, cut to the left, and fired it past Juhl-Larsen.

Wright State cut into the lead courtesy of a Brock Pickett goal in the 70th minute. They got one more in the 80th minute thanks to Reece Allbaugh's penalty kick. Even though they pressed on for more chances and got close in the 90th minute off a shot from Allbaugh that went wide, it was not enough, and Duquesne survived.

With his appearance in this match, Nate Dragisich broke the program record for matches played with 78, passing Noah Salsi (2003-06), Zach Varga (2003-06), Terry McNelis (1999-02), and Nathan Salsi (1999-02).

Nate's brother Johnny Dragisich saw his first career college minutes in a historic match for the family.

Wright State outshot Duquesne 16-12, and they had the advantage with shots on goal too at a 9-6 tally. Zoltan Nagy made six saves in net for the Dukes.

Christoffer Vie Angell and Tom Tzabari were both credited with secondary assists on the first two goals by Mohney.

Duquesne will finish out their regular season at home with a high-stakes A-10 matchup against La Salle on Saturday at 5 p.m.
