Duquesne Wraps Up Road Slate with Tie at Fordham

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University men's soccer team concluded the road portion of its 2023 regular season Saturday, playing to a 1-1 draw at Fordham. The Dukes own an overall record of 6-6-3 (.500) during the 2023 season, including 3-2-2 (.571) in the Atlantic 10.

Scoreless through 40 minutes, the Rams peppered 10 shots in search of the first marker, with Duquesne blocking three shots while keeper Zoltan Nagy picked up a pair of saves.

The Dukes got their first shot on goal at 42:05 from forward Jayden Da, and less than a minute later the second shot of the contest put Duquesne on the board. Nate Dragisich found open space downfield and ended by feeding Da, whose shot from the angle found the inside of the left post to put the Dukes up, 1-0. For Da it marked his seventh goal of the season.

Fordham (6-2-6 / 3-2-2 A-10) outshot Duquesne, 12-2, in the opening half, and kept the pressure up after the break, adding 12 more. The Dukes tried to add to their advantage early in the second half, when Ask Ekeland connected for a pair of shots, both of which were blocked.

Duquesne also came up with some big blocked shots, including a pair inside of 20 minutes to play, when Harper Cook and Nathan Simes each had shots blocked by the Dukes.

Fordham was able to find the equalizer at 84:29 when Daniel D'Ippolito scored his fourth of the year on an assist from Sigfus Arnason.

Nagy finished with four saves for the Dukes, while Carter Abbott posted one for the Rams.

Dragisich, meanwhile, appeared in his 77th game for Duquesne, tying the program career record. Four other Dukes in school history have played in 77 career matches, the last of which came in 2006, when both Noah Salsi (2003-06) and Zach Varga (2003-06) tied the program standard originally established by Terry McNelis (1999-2002) and Nathan Salsi (1999-2002) in 2002.

The Dukes, tied with Fordham for sixth place in the conference standings with 13 points, concludes their 2023 regular season with a pair of games at Rooney Field. Duquesne welcomes Wright State for a non-conference match Wednesday, Oct. 25, before hosting La Salle Saturday, Oct. 28.
