PITTSBURGH - Duquesne stuck with No. 23 ranked Pittsburgh for the first 66 minutes of action from Ambrose Urbanic Field on Tuesday night. However, in the final 28, Pitt scored twice to beat the Dukes 2-0 in the City Game.
DU had three shots in an 11 minute span from 48'-59', but couldn't break through. Ashton Jell put one on frame in the 48th, but was saved, then Ask Ekeland fired one missing high right just over 10 minutes later. Pitt (6-4-3, 2-2-2 ACC) finally broke the ice and got out in front of the Dukes (6-6-2, 3-2-1 A-10) in the 66th minute off a corner. Fabian Grau headed a pass to Guilherme Feitosa who finished with his right thigh as he went crashing into Zoltan Nagy for his second goal of the season.
The Panthers tacked on another goal in the 88th minute after Duuqesne got caught playing up high in their own zone. Luis Sahmkow hit Michael Sullivan on a stretch pass, who then slid a pass to the right side where Raphael Cilli finished with a blast to the top right of the net that beat Nagy.
Pittsburgh outshot Duquesne 9-6 in the match, holding a 5-3 edge in the second half of play. Duquesne and Pitt combined for six cards in this one, all of which were yellows. Duquesne had four of the six.
Jayden Da and Ask Ekeland led the Dukes in shots with 2 each. Christoffer Vie Angell, Sam Bennett and Grant McIntosh all played the full 90 minutes of action for Duquesne.
UP NEXT
The Dukes will be back in action on Saturday, when they travel to Fordham to resume their conference schedule. They will then finish out their season at home on Oct. 25th against Wright State at 7 P.M. and against La Salle on Oct. 28th at 5 P.M.
