Men's Soccer Edges GW, 3-2

PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne University men's soccer team picked up a key three points in Atlantic 10 play Saturday night at Rooney Field with a 3-2 triumph over visiting George Washington.

The Dukes used its highest scoring outing in conference play, and second highest of the season, to snap a three-game losing skid improving to 6-5-2 on the year and 3-2-1 in A-10 action. DU moves into a tie for fifth in the conference with 10 points.

Duquesne trailed twice in the match, but was able to answer both times. After an eventful first half ended 2-2, Ask Ekeland's second goal of the night in the 47th minute proved to be the decider.

The Revolutionaries struck first and fast with a goal less than two minutes into the game. GW kept up the early pressure recording six of the first eight shots of the game over the opening 21 minutes. Zoltan Nagy made a pair of saves during the stretch to keep the deficit at one.

The Dukes drew a penalty inside the box in the 29th minute and was able to even up the score with Cameron Territo rocketing in a score under the crossbar on the PK. Territo becomes the third Duke to notch multiple goals this season with his second of the year.

George Washington answered right back a minute and 33 seconds later with Louis Saville's second goal of the night, this time deflecting it off a DU defender.

In the 37th minute, Ekeland fielded a pass from Nate Dragisich and tied up the match yet again just before the break.

In reverse fashion of the first half, Duquesne struck just two minutes back from the half. Ekeland completed a picture perfect give-and-go with Tate Mahoney for the game winner just inside the low right corner.

Ekeland is now second in the Atlantic 10 with eight goals after charting his third multi-goal game of the season tonight.

Duquesne had eight players account for its 11 shots, Ekeland, Jayden Da, and Territo all had two apiece to lead the way.

The Dukes maintained control in the attacking end and had sound back line defense resulting in a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks, including a 4-0 margin in the second half.

Nagy finished with four saves playing all 90 minutes in net.

In a physical match played under a constant drizzle, there were 22 fouls, 14 of which on GW, and seven yellow cards.
