WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Duquesne women's volleyball fell to Atlantic 10 rival George Washington in five sets on Friday in the nation's capital. The newly named Revolutionaries erased a deficit after three sets to win the match.
Duquesne (8-8, 3-5 A-10) had two players record double digit kills with sophomore Carsyn Henschen tallying 18 and freshman Avery Hobson, the team leader on the season, posting 13. Freshman Chloe Wilmot posted her seventh double-double on the season with 43 assists and 18 digs, which tied for a game-high.
George Washington (7-12, 4-4 A-10) had two players on the north end of 20 kills in senior Liv Womble with 23 and junior Salem Yohannes with 22, both of whom had double-doubles.
Duquesne dropped the first set 26-24, despite going on a 3-0 run to take a 24-23 lead. Henschen led the set with a whopping seven kills for Duquesne. The Revolutionaries had two players with six kills in Grace Wiczek and Womble.
The Dukes came roaring back in the second set to even the match with a 25-16 win. Duquesne led by as many as nine points during the set. Duquesne posted 13 kills to GW"s nine, and out-hit them .243 to .081.
Duquesne took the lead with a third set victory by a score of 25-23. Duquesne's Hobson posted four kills in the set, and Henschen tacked on another five to her total, including the winning point on a kill from the center of the court, off Wilmot's 29th assist of the night.
The Dukes had three of their five services aces in the third set.
George Washington took the penultimate set 25-17, forcing a winner-take-all fifth set. The Revolutionaries took the lead early and never relinquished it. GW's .324 hit rate was almost double that of Duquesne's. GW also led in kills and aces.
In the deciding set, the Revolutionaries took an early lead, which they did not surrender. George Washington recorded 10 kills, to Duquesne's four, and posted a match-high .348 hitting percentage to claim the set and match.
The two sides will meet again tomorrow at 2 PM. Duquesne is 3-4 after a loss this season. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
