Track and Field Wraps Up Competition at YSU College Invite

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Duquesne track and field team competed at the Youngstown State College Invite on Friday against over 1,800 athletes and 25 other schools.

Junior Alyssa Willis finished fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.69 and set a new PR of 7.63 in the 60m dash prelims. Graduate student Autumn Parsons won heat three in the 60m qualifier (8.38), but did not qualify for the prelims.

Sophomore David Williams placed first in the 60m dash qualifier with a time of 7.03.

Sophomore Claire Belton set a new PR in the 5000m run, running a 10:49.04 and finishing 10th out of 25 competitors.

Junior Emily Brozeski finished fourth in the 60m hurdles finals with a time of 8.86 after qualifying with a time of 8.96. Sophomore Jamelah Carswell (ninth, 9.24), sophomore Halle Walcutt (18th, 9.69) and junior Anna Baxter (24th, 9.95) all set PRs in the event.

Sophomore Haley Hamilton landed in 12th-place of out 68 runners in the women's one-mile run, finishing in 5:13.09. Sophomore Mara Whalen set a new PR with a time of 5:16.27 while placing 15th.

Junior Hannah Seitzinger (57.53) placed third in the 400m dash, sophomore Amy Allen finished (58.21) fifth, sophomore Kaylin Cousin (59.95) finished ninth and junior Faith Mucci (1:00.18) finished 12th.

Freshman Matt DeMatteo finished 14th with a time of 50.85 and sophomore Zach DeCarmine set a new PR of 51.72 and finished 23rd in the men's 400m dash.

Belton set a new PR in the 5000m at 18:49.04 and finished ninth.

Junior Sadie Wetzel and Brozeski placed fourth and fifth in the shot put at 1.60m.

 Freshman Madelyn Moretti finished fourth in the shot put at 13.27m.

Junior Olivia Wilson placed seventh and set a new PR with a time of 2:21.53 in the 800m run while freshman Ryley Schwalm finished in 2:22.16, also setting a new PR.

Freshman Jadon Rahman placed third in the 800m run with a time of 1:56.96.

Willis finished in seventh-place out of 107 competitors in the 200m with a time of 25.46. Brozeski (26.10) placed 19th, Allen (26.19) placed 21st and Seitzinger (26.30) placed 24th .

Sophomore Addy Ciecierski placed 13th in the 3,000m out of 42 runners with a time of 10:30.04.

All three Duquesne runners in the 3,000m finished in the top-15 – junior Zack Toth (8:36.47) placed fourth, junior Casey Padgett (8:41.13) placed sixth and freshman Nathaniel Woshner (8:53.18) placed 15th.
 
The team of DeMatteo, Williams, DeCarmine and junior Ian Thrush placed third in the men's 4x400m relay with a time of 3:21.98.
