Penalty Kick Proves to be the Difference as Dukes Fall to Buffalo

PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne women's soccer team dropped a second-straight game Sunday afternoon, this time to the Buffalo Bulls, by a score of 1-0.

The loss moves Duquesne's record to 2-3 while Buffalo improves to 4-1 on the year.

A penalty kick in the sixth-minute of the game proved to be the deciding factor today as it was the only goal scored by either side.

Buffalo's Katie Krohn got fouled inside the box and delivered the goal just minutes into the game.

Duquesne sophomore goalkeeper Maddy Neundorfer saved another six shots for the Dukes and held strong throughout the game following the penalty kick.

Sophomore forward Emma Bundy had Duquesne's only shot on goal today. Senior midfielder Sarah Wilkinson, senior defender Ashley Rodriguez and senior defender Kayla Winicki were the three field-players that played all 90 minutes.

Buffalo's goal in the sixth minute was the only time it found the back of the net, but the Bulls had chances all throughout the game. They outshot the Dukes 18-4 on the day. Shots on goal were in favor of Buffalo 9-1.

Despite that, the Dukes did have their chances – none better than Wilkinson's breakaway in the 79th-minute that ended up missing the bottom right corner of the net by no less than a couple feet.

The Dukes' next-best chance was in the 25th-minute when Bundy stole a ball at midfield and started a two-on-one with junior forward Jaimi Araujo. Buffalo's defense ended up stopping that charge.

Although today didn't go as planned, the Dukes will get back out on the field Thursday at Saint Francis (PA) at 2 P.M. ET.
