PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne women's soccer team dropped a tough one at UMass Thursday afternoon by a score of 1-0.
The loss moves Duquesne's record to 4-5-1 (2-2-1 A-10) while UMass improves to 3-5-5 (2-1-2 A-10) on the year.
The Dukes dominated the second half but could not find the back of the net to tie up the game. Massachusetts' goal in the 37
th-minute proved to be the difference.
Duquesne put seven shots on goal in the second half while UMass had only one. Overall, the Dukes had nine shots on goal compared to the Minutewomen's three.

Maya Matesa led the team with three shots on goal each.

It was a tale of two halves for Duquesne, as UMass dominated shots in the first half with 10 compared to Duquesne's three. The Minutewomen put the pressure on the Dukes' defense for the first 45 minutes and eventually got on the board with a goal in the 37
th-minute.
In the second half, the Dukes came out firing, launching 10 shots with seven of them on net. Matesa nearly scored a few minutes into half after forcing a turnover, but UMass' goalie deflected the ball high.

Brooke Kirstein all had chances as well, but none of them got past the goalkeeper.

th-minute, but she was ruled offsides.
The Dukes would continue to pepper UMass with shots, but the Minutewomen's back line held up for the full 90 minutes.
GAME NOTES
- Duquesne's nine shots on goal were a season high and were they most it has had in a game since Oct. 10, 2021 at George Mason.
- Neundorfer snapped a nine-game streak of making at least five saves, mostly due to the Dukes' solid defense in the second half.
- Matesa's three shots on goal tied a season high.
- Senior defender Ashley Rodriguez played the full 90 minutes for the sixth-straight game and eighth time this season.
- Senior defender Kayla Winicki has also played 90 minutes in six-straight games.
