PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Duquesne women's soccer team scored three unanswered goals to come from behind and beat the La Salle Explorers 4-2 on Sunday afternoon.
The win improves Duquesne's record to 5-5-1 (3-2-1 A-10) while La Salle falls to 6-6 (1-4 A-10) on the year.
Down 2-1 at halftime, the Dukes scored three times in the second half to secure the victory.
Freshman forward
Maya Matesa scored the final goal to clinch the win. She led the team with three shots on goal. Freshman defender
Lindsay Krafchick recorded the assist.
Freshman midfielder
Mackenzie Muir scored the game-winning goal in the 74
th-minute. She leads the team with three game-winning goals this season.
Junior midfielder
Cami Taylor notched her first goal of the season to open the scoring in the 21
st-minute. Senior defender
Ashley Rodriguez tallied the assist.
Freshman defender
Eva LaVecchia scored her first career goal in the 62
nd-minute to tie the game at 2-2. Freshman forward
Margey Brown tallied her second assist of the season on LaVecchia's goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Maddy Neundorfer recorded six saves.
The Dukes and Explorers each had eight shots on goal today.
Just after Taylor's goal to give the Dukes an early lead, La Salle drew a foul in the box and scored on a penalty kick to even the game.
Right before half, La Salle took the lead on a 43
rd-minute goal. The Dukes would go into the locker room trailing by one.
It took about 17 minutes for the Dukes to tie it at two, but once LaVecchia scored, the floodgates opened.
Muir would score the game-winner 12 minutes later before Matesa found the back of the net nine minutes after that.
With a two-goal lead and just seven minutes remaining, all the Dukes needed to do was hold on, which they did. They are back in action Sunday at 1:00 P.M. when Davidson comes to Pittsburgh.
GAME NOTES
- Muir now has three game-winning goals this season which is the most on the team.
- Matesa's three shots on goal led the team today.
- This was Taylor's first goal of the season and second of her career. The other came against Richmond on Sept. 30, 2021.
- Rodriguez played the full 90 minutes for the seventh-straight game. Her assist was her second of the year.
- LaVecchia's goal was the first of her career.
- Neundorfer has now made at least five saves in 10 out of 11 games this year.
