PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne women's soccer team tied Davidson 1-1 Sunday afternoon at Rooney Field.
Duquesne is now 5-5-2 (3-2-2 A-10) while Davidson moves to 10-2-3 (3-2-2 A-10). These two team are both tied for fourth-place in the Atlantic 10.
Junior forward
Jaimi Araujo scored the Dukes' lone goal in the 46
th-minute off a corner that hit the crossbar and went in. Sophomore forward
Emma Bundy tallied the assist.
About two minutes later, Araujo lined up to take a free kick and fired one off the post for what ended up being the next-best opportunity for Duquesne in the second half.
Freshman midfielder
Mackenzie Muir had two shots and freshman forward
Maya Matesa recorded a shot on goal.
Despite being outshot in the first half 7-6, the Dukes had the shot advantage in the second half, 5-2. Overall, Duquesne outshot Davidson 11-9.
As the game winded down, neither team was able to get any big-time chances. Both teams played solid defensively and stopped any opposing opportunity in its tracks.
The Dukes were down 1-0 at halftime after Sophia Caruso put the Wildcats ahead in the 28
th-minute. Besides that tally, there was nothing else going for either team in the first half.
GAME NOTES
- Araujo scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 46th-minute. She also led the team with four shots and two shots on goal.
- Bundy notched her first point of the season with an assist on the Araujo goal. It's her first point since Sept. 23, 2021 against Saint Louis.
- Rodriguez played the full 90 minutes for the eighth-straight game.
- Davidson and Duquesne are tied for fourth-place in the A-10. That spot is critical, as the fourth-seed gets to host an A-10 Tournament match while the fifth-seed must go on the road.
