AKRON, OHIO - Dyson Clapier's goal in the 53rd minute was the difference as No. 25 Akron (5-2-2) held off No. 24 Duquesne (6-1-2), 1-0, in a nonconference matchup at Akron on Wednesday night.
The loss was the first for the Dukes who set a school record for games without a loss (eight) to open the season.
Ask Ekeland led DU with a pair of shots.
Domenic Nascimben had four saves for the Dukes.
Duquesne returns to Atlantic 10 play when its completes a stretch of three consecutive road games at George Washington (5-3-2, 1-1) on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 1:00 p.m. (ESPN+).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Akron's Dyson Clapier put the first shot on net for either team in the 8th minute.
- A Jacob Casha to Maxi Hopfer pass completed a long run leading to a DU corner in the 13th minute.
- Ask Ekeland had a shot from the top of the box blocked in the 15th minute.
- DU's Domenic Nascimben recorded his second save in the 25th minute.
- Zach Mowka won a ball in the box and had his shot headed just right of the frame by an Akron defender in the 41st minute. Mowka's shot was DU's top scoring chance of the half.
- Akron outshot Duquesne 7-5 (2-0 on goal) in the first half.
- The Dukes were whistled offside three times in the opening 45 minutes.
- DU applied pressure early in the half before Akron's Clapier broke the ice by depositing a cross in the lower left in the 53rd minute.
- Nascimben came well off the line to his right to stop an Akron run shortly after the goal.
- Nascimben stopped a hard shot from Jason Shokalook in the 70th minute.
- The Dukes had the ball in the Akron box for an extended time in the 81st minute but were unable to manufacture a shot.
