Duquesne and Saint Joseph's Tie 2-2 Sunday

PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne women's soccer team tied with the Saint Joseph's Hawks 2-2 Sunday afternoon at Rooney Field.

Duquesne's record is now 3-3-1 while Saint Joseph's record moves to 1-5-4.

Junior forward Jaimi Araujo once again found the back of the net today, notching her fourth goal of the year and third in two games.

Although Araujo did not get credit for a Saint Joseph's own goal, she was the one who applied the pressure that forced it.

Sophomore goalkeeper Maddy Neundorfer made five saves in the draw.

The shots were lopsided in SJU's favor at 21-9, but shots on goal were a little closer at 8-4.

It was another physical game for the Dukes, as they were given three yellow cards and 10 fouls total.

Today's match was similar to Thursday's, with Duquesne dominating much of the game but giving up a couple goals in a short period of time.

Araujo tapped in her fourth goal of the season in the 27th-minute after a cross found its way to her. The match remained scoreless for the rest of the first half.

In the 48th-minute, some beautiful passing by Duquesne led to a ball being played in the box which was then deflected by a couple Hawks into their own goal to give the Dukes a 2-0 lead.

Not even a minute later, SJU responded with a goal into the correct net. But just like Thursday's game, Duquesne was unable to allow just the one goal.

Within another two minutes, the Hawks would tie the game up at two goals each.

A few chances for each team and a lot of physical challenges filled the remainder of the 90 minutes, with neither team being able to grab the victory.

GAME NOTES
  • Araujo leads the team with four goals and nine points. She also leads the Dukes with 19 shots and 12 shots on goal.
  • She now ranks eighth in the A-10 in goals (4) and shots on goal (12).
