EUGENE, Ore - Duquesne University junior
Collin Ebling (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) closed out one of the best individual track & field seasons in program history at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships Wednesday night at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.
Ebling ran a time of one minute, 48.02 seconds in the semifinals of the 800-meter run to place sixth in his heat and 17th overall in the field. The top-two finishers in each of the three heats plus the next three best times advanced to Friday's championship race.
He clocked in with a slightly faster time than his run at the NCAA East Preliminary Championship on May 27 in Indiana which secured his spot at the National Championships. Ebling crossed the finish line that day in one minute, 48.41 seconds to post the sixth-fastest time at the event.
Ebling broke and re-broke a total of seven school records this season, including his school-record time of one minute, 47.88 seconds during the sixth and final heat of the first round of the 800 meters in Indiana on May 25.
Ebling was the third Duquesne men's track & field athlete to compete at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships and the first since Jim Spisak in 2014 (10,000-meter run). Former Duke Tom Slosky advanced to the NCAA National Championships in the steeplechase three times (2006, 2007 & 2008).
