ADDISON, ILL - In an event that began with 650 collegiate bowlers from across the country, Duquesne's
Olivia Farwell (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) and
Kiearra Saldi (Taylor, Pa./Holy Cross) are among the last four standing, as both have advanced to the semifinal of the Intercollegiate Singles Championships currently underway at Stardust Bowl in Addison, Ill.
The twosome, who both qualified out of the Addison, Ill. sectional qualifier on March 11, comprise half of the semifinal field. Farwell and Saldi will compete for the ISC Championship on Saturday beginning at 4:15 (ET) on CBS Sports Network (tape delay with air date TBD).
This is the first time in school history that a DU bowler has reached the ISC semifinal round.
Farwell, the 2022 NTCA Player of the Year who qualified as the No. 9 seed, defeated 24th-seeded Britany Myers of McKendree (595-554) in round one on Tuesday and followed that with wins over No. 8 seed Ann Warkel of McKendree (596-556) and No. 17 seed Rebecca Dotson of Mount St. Mary's (626-619) on Wednesday to reach the semis.
Saldi, a 2022 NTCA All-Region pick, dispatched No. 23 seed Madison McCall of Tulane (623-535) on Tuesday, before posting convincing wins over No. 7 seed Serentiy Quintero of St. Francis, Ill. (551-483) and No. 2 seed Rebecca Hagerman of McKendree (647-513) on Wednesday.
Scoring was based on a three-game pin total.
Farwell will take on Vanderbilt's Mabel Cummins, the No. 4 seed, and Saldi will face 11th-seeded Chloe Skurzynski of Stephen F. Austin on Saturday.
Saturday's matches will consist of a single game with the high pin total advancing.
Both Farwell and Saldi, who are on opposite sides of the
bracket (PDF) and cannot meet until the final, have the opportunity to become the first individual national champion in school history.
Duquesne, one of 16 national qualifiers for the Intercollegiate Team Championship, begins team play tomorrow with a 24 baker game qualifying round set to start at 9:00 am (ET).
