NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Duquesne University guard
Fatou Pouye (Kaolack, Senegal/Glasgow Christian Academy (Ky.)) has been named the Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week announced the league office Monday afternoon.
Pouye averaged 23.5 points and 5.0 boards to help the Dukes post wins over Richmond and St. Bonaventure this past week.
The grad-transfer from Western Kentucky led all players with 27 points on 10 of 16 shooting, including 5-of-7 from long range, with seven rebounds in the team's 99-75 win over St. Bonaventure Sunday. Pouye's five three pointers were part of the team's 19 total that tied the A-10 single-game record.
The native of Senegal recorded a game-high 20 points in the team's 80-68 win over Richmond on Wednesday.
The 20-point outings were Pouye's fourth and fifth of the season. She has now scored 20 or more points in three of the team's last five games.
Pouye leads the Dukes and slots fifth in the A-10 with a 47.4 field goal percentage. She is tied with
Tess Myers for the team lead at 12.9 points per game this season.
She is the first Duquesne player to earn the award since
Libby Bazelak claimed the honor on Dec. 23, 2019.
Pouye and the rest of the Dukes (11-15, 6-8 A-10) enter the final week of the regular-season this week with two games that have significant A-10 Championship seeding implications. The team will travel to La Salle on Wednesday, Feb. 23 for a 6 p.m. tip., before closing out the regular-season at home against Saint Joseph's on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m.
