PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne women's tennis team picked up a 5-2 win over Saint Francis U at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center.
The Dukes took the doubles point and each of the top-four spot in singles competition to secure the team victory.
Daniela Latoni and
Ana Utrilla Benito each earned staight set wins in singles play. Latoni won No. 4 singles 6-4, 6-1, while Ultrilla Benito earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.
The Dukes clinched the win when
Ellen Shanahan earned a three-set win (6-2, 1-6, 6-4) at No. 3 singles.
Margot Pessy put the finishing touches on the win with a three-set victory of her own at the top-singles postion. She downed SFU's Dominique Yeo 7-5, 3-6, 6-2.
Duquense opened the day by taking No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The tandem of Meredita Lee and
Priyanka Mitta cruised to a 6-0 win at the top doubles spot, while Ultrilla Benito and Shanahan claimed No. 3 doubles 6-1.
The Dukes are back at the Alpha next Friday, Feb. 25 when they take on Carnegie Mellon around 7 p.m.
