PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne men's tennis team improved to 3-1 this season with a 5-2 victory over Saint Francis U at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center.
The Dukes won at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to secure the doubles point, before claiming a quartet of singles matches to earn the team win.
Kaipo Marshall,
Jin Dassanayake and
Tamirlan Teberikov all won in straight sets to clinch the victory. Marshall was victorious by scores of 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, Dassanayake claimed No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-1, while Teberikov won 6-3, 6-3 at the fourth singles spot.
Liam Wickwire closed out the scoring with a 7-6 (2-0), 7-6 (4-0) win at No. 6 singles to add to the team score.
After the two teams split No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, Marshall and
Alex Mascioli battled for a 7-6 (9-7) tiebreaker win at No. 1 doubles to help the team pick up the doubles point.
The team has added a match on Monday, Feb. 21 at Cleveland State. The two teams are now scheduled to start doubles play at 4 p.m.
