HOW IT HAPPENED
Duquesne picked up right where it left off yesterday, jumping out to a 10-4 lead over the Rams. Shortly after that, the Rams went on a 6-0 run to tie the match at 11-11. The two teams fought back-and-forth until VCU took a commanding 24-20 lead late, but the Dukes fought back to tie it at 24. Unfortunately for them, VCU was able to grab a two-point lead to win the set 27-25.
This set was very tight early and VCU led 9-8, but then Duquesne scored nine of the next 13 points to force a VCU timeout while the Dukes led 17-13. The rest of the set never became that close, and the Dukes held on to win set two 25-18.
The third set was close most of the way through, but Duquesne held the early advantage. VCU took the lead after a 5-0 run to make it 14-12 Rams. VCU extended its lead to 22-17, but Duquesne took three out of the next four points to force a VCU timeout. Despite the momentum swing, the Rams were able to take the next two points to win the set.
Duquesne was able to jump out to an 11-4 lead in this one, but VCU was quickly able to shrink that lead to just three at 13-10. The two sides traded points until Duquesne was able to pull ahead a little bit at 22-17. From there, the Dukes were able to close the deal and force a fifth set.
