Dukes Clip North Florida

Brewer Hits Game-winner with :01 Left

PITTSBURGH - Tevin Brewer's floater in the lane with one second left was the difference as Duquesne (4-1) opened its nine-game homestand with a dramatic 83-82 win over North Florida (1-3) at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse on Monday night.

UNF's Jarius Hicklin hit one of two free throws with :13 left to set up the final possession.

Duquesne advanced the ball up the floor and swung the ball around the perimeter, before the ball found Brewer on the right side. The first-year FIU transfer, who was 1-of-5 from the floor up to that point, took two dribbles to his left and launched a one-handed 12-footer for the win.

Dae Dae Grant hit four 3-pointers in scoring a game-high 26 points for Duquesne. Tre Williams added 13 points and freshman David Dixon added 12 points - including three dunks - and six rebounds in his first career start.

Grant led the Dukes, who finished with 22 assists, with six assists and DU turned it over just six times.

DU outscored UNF 20-0 off turnovers to counteract a 58 percent shooting effort by the Ospreys.

UNF, which led by as many as eight in the first half, saw its lead cut to 43-42 at intermission.

Grant hit three 3-pointers in the first eight minutes of the second half to ignite the Dukes.

Quincy McGriff buried 3-pointer off a long pass from Grant to force a North Florida timeout to put the Dukes up 70-64 at the 8:47 mark.

UNF, which finished 11-of-24 from the 3-point arc, continued its hot shooting, pulling within one at 73-72 with 5:33 left on back-to-back 3-pointers.

There were three ties and seven lead changes before Brewer hit the game-winner.

There were 18 ties and 23 lead changes in the game.

Duquesne will be back in action in less than 48 hours when it hosts Alabama State (0-5) on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. (ESPN+).
