Dukes Conquer Colgate in Akron

Grant leads four in double figures with 24

AKRON, OHIO - Dae Dae Grant scored a team-high 24 points and Tre Williams added a season-high 15 to lead Duquesne (3-1) to a hard-fought 85-80 win over Colgate (3-2) at Akron's St. Vincent-St. Mary's LeBron James Arena on Friday night.

Tevin Brewer added 14 points and six assists and Austin Rotroff had 10 points for the Dukes who are now 4-0 in trips to Akron for regular season games under sixth-year head coach Keith Dambrot. Dambrot, an Akron native, served as head coach at STVM from 1998-99 through 2000-01 where he led the Irish - and a young LeBron James - to a pair of state titles.

Colgate, which hit 19 3-pointers in its 80-68 win at Syracuse on Tuesday, finished 10-of-25 from the arc, while the Dukes, led by Grant's 5-of-7 effort, went 11-of-24 from deep.

Duquesne, behind four 3-pointers from Grant, led 25-17 before Colgate went on a 7-0 run to make it a one-point game.

DU rallied to take its first double-digit lead on back-to-back 3-pointers from Brewer that made it 42-28, as Colgate missed seven consecutive 3-point attempts.

Grant hit a layup, for his 17th point of the half, to give the Dukes a 48-34 lead at the break.

DU got a three-point play from Williams to take a 16-point lead, before Colgate answered with an 8-0 run to make it 51-43.

Colgate made it a one-point game, at 53-52, on a Tucker Richardson floater at the 13:47 mark as DU opened the half 2-of-9 with five turnovers.

Duquesne went inside with Williams and Austin Rotroff, who scored all of his 10 points in the second half, doing the damage.

Grant buried a deep 3-pointer to make it 69-59 and Matus Hronsky added another 3-pointer to put the Dukes up 74-61.

Colgate then scored nine in a row to make it 79-74 with 1:13 left.

Rotroff ended the run with a pair of free throws at the 51 second mark.

Colgate's Ryan Moffatt hit a 3-pointer with 28 seconds left to make it 82-80.

Grant hit two free throws and DU forced a Colgate 3-point miss, but the Raiders retained possession down 84-80 with 14 seconds left.

DU forced another miss off the rebound and Rotroff rebounded and was fouled with six seconds left.

He made 1-of-2 for the final margin.

The Dukes outshot the Raiders 51 percent to 44 percent.

Duquesne returns home to play two games in three days prior to Thanksgiving with North Florida visiting UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse on Monday and Alabama State in town to face the Dukes on Wednesday. Both games, which will be streamed live on ESPN+, are set for a 7:00 p.m. tip.

In recognition of the Dukes' 93.5 ppg. home scoring average, Duquesne is offering a special $9.35 ticket for both games. Promo code 90PLUSPTS.

The North Florida game begins a stretch of nine in a row at home for the Dukes, who will not play on the road until their Atlantic 10 opener at Dayton on Dec. 28.
