PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne University volleyball team dropped a match in four sets to Loyola Chicago Saturday night.
Duquesne falls to 3-15 (0-6 A-10) while Loyola moves to 12-7 (6-0 A-10).
Graduate student
Elizabeth Osborn led the Dukes offensively all night, totaling 16 kills on 38 attempts, hitting .289 overall.
Senior
Morgan Kelly had nine kills of her own. Freshman
Carsyn Henschen had six kills.
Senior
Anita Parrott only had two kills, but she pitched in with two blocks.
Senior
Hailey Poling had three kills, a team-high four aces and two blocks. Her 29 assists brings her season total to 567.
HOW IT HAPPENED
There was not much going on for Duquesne in either of the first two sets. In the first, the Dukes were within three at 16-13, but Loyola went on a 4-0 run and wrapped up the set soon after. In the second set, Loyola dominated most of the way, winning this set 25-13.
The third set told a different story, and the Dukes showed lots of fight. This one was tight pretty much the entire set, and Loyola had Duquesne with its back against the wall as it led 23-21. But the Dukes were not ready to be done, and they ripped off four-straight points to win this set and force a fourth.
The Dukes were not able to force a fifth and final set, as Loyola bounced back and won the fourth. Duquesne had the lead at 8-7, but Loyola scored three-straight and never gave up the lead after that, winning 25-15.
GAME NOTES
- Osborn's 16 kills were her second-most on the season, trailing only her 21 kills against Sept. 9 against UT Chattanooga.
- Henschen's 185 kills rank eighth in the A-10 on the year.
- Poling's 567 assists are the second-most in the conference.
- Freshman Madison Grimm had 10 digs tonight, making it her 13th game in which she has recorded double-digit kills this season.
