DAYTON, Ohio – The Duquesne University volleyball team fell to the Dayton Flyers in three sets Tuesday evening.
Duquesne falls to 3-14 (0-5 A-10) while Dayton moves to 9-9 (3-2 A-10).
Senior
Morgan Kelly led the Dukes with six kills. She was also able to tally three blocks in the match.
Freshman
Carsyn Henschen and senior
Anita Parrott each had five kills. Henschen recorded two blocks while Parrott led the team with four.
Sophomore
Madison Floyd had three blocks and three kills.
Senior
Hailey Poling recorded 20 assists today, bringing her season total to 538.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Duquesne was within two at 6-4, but Dayton went on a 4-0 run early to take a commanding 10-4 lead in the first set. After a 6-0 run later on in the set, the Flyers had a 17-7 lead and went on to win the first set comfortably.
The Dukes were down 7-4 early in set two, but they ripped off a 5-0 run to take a 9-7 lead. A few points later, they still held the lead at 11-10. The two teams went back-and-forth until Dayton led 18-16. The Flyers would then go on a 7-1 run to win set two.
In the third set, Dayton grabbed an 11-5 lead before Duquesne clawed its way back to a one-point game after five-straight points. The Dukes would keep this one relatively close for most of the set, even being within three at 19-16, but Dayton would eventually pull away and take the win.
