PREVIEW: Swimming & Diving at Richmond Duals

PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne University Swimming and Diving team will make its 2022-23 dual meet debut at the Richmond Duals on Oct. 21-22 in Virginia's capital city.

The swimming events will take place at SwimRVA, while the diving competition will take place at the Robins Center on the campus of the University of Richmond.

Duquesne will open the duals against George Mason on Friday, with Davidson and host-Richmond competing in the other matchup. The winners of those two duals will compete head-to-head on Saturday, with the two remaining teams also taking on one another.

The dual will showcase squads with high aspirations for the Atlantic 10 Championships later this season, as all four competing teams were picked among the top-six in the preseason coaches poll. Duquesne was picked to finish second, Richmond was slotted third, while Davidson and George Mason were tabbed fifth and sixth, respectively.

In the pool, the Dukes welcome back a bounty of talented swimmers, including Emma Menzer. Menzer is a two-time silver medalist in the 400-yard IM and was a member of goal medal winning, conference-record holding 800-yard freestyle relay team.

Also back in the fold is Hayley Taylor, who was also on the 800-yard free relay team that won gold. She just missed to podium with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard free, but posted an NCAA-B time in the 200-yard backstroke in the consolation heat.

Sidney O'Donnell returns for the Dukes in the dives. She qualified for the NCAA Zone A Championships last March and was a silver medalist in the three-meter dives at A-10 Championships.

O'Donnell will be joined by newcomer Amy Read, who was a four-time NCAA qualifier at Pitt. She earned the Pitt "Panther Hammer Award" last season as the individual who contributed the most points for the team during the post-season.

Throughout the course of both days of the Richmond Duals a total of five meets will be contested. The women's 1,650 will kickoff competition on Friday, Oct. 21 around 5:00 p.m.

UP NEXT
The Dukes will continue with the 2022-23 season on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 29-30 when they travel to the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio for the A-10 Invitational.
