BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Duquesne women's soccer team (2-3-1) was defeated 4-0 by Buffalo (5-1) Sunday afternoon at UB Stadium in the final non-conference match of the season.

Buffalo, winners of five-straight, got on the board first in the sixth minute of the match. The Dukes cleared the initial corner-kick attempt into the box, but the Bulls chipped the ball back in and Marcy Barberic got the ball near the low right post and chipped it past Virgin to the left side to make the score 1-0.

The Bulls added to their lead with goals in the 21
st and 24
th minutes. Barberic found the back of the net on a free kick from about 30 yards out, before another goal on a re-directed ball in front of the DU net made the score 3-0.

Duquesne's best scoring opportunity in the first half came off of a well-placed corner kick by
Hannah Nguyen (Irwin, Pa./Penn Trafford) in the 28
th-minute. Buffalo's goalkeeper was forced to play the ball off of the corner, where it found the foot of
Ashley Rodriguez (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) who sent a shot attempt high.

After heading into the half with a three-goal lead, Buffalo extended the margin in the second half on a giveaway in the backfield in the 58
th-minute to bring the score to 4-0.

Despite the score, Buffalo only held a 14-to-13 edge is shots. Both teams put seven on-target.

The Dukes will enter Atlantic 10 play with a two-game homestand with matches against Massachusetts and league-favorite Saint Louis. Duquesne will host the Minutemen of UMass on Sunday, Sept. 19 at Rooney Field. The match will broadcast on ESPN+ starting at 1 p.m.
