Dukes Drop Contest at 25th-Ranked UMass

AMHERST, Mass. - The Duquesne lacrosse team fell by a score of 21-10 on the road at 25th-ranked Massachusetts in an Atlantic 10 matchup on Sunday at Garber Field. The Dukes move to 4-3 overall and 3-3 in A-10 play while the first-place Minutewomen improve to 10-2 on the season and 5-0 in conference action. 

Carlee Braverman netted a team-high four goals while Rilee Bradshaw, Michaela Connolly and Maddie Hart recorded two goals apiece for Duquesne. 

UMass built a 9-3 lead before Connolly and Braverman found the back of the net late in the first half to shrink the Minutewomen advantage to 9-5 at the break. 

UMass opened the second frame on a 9-1 run to extend its edge to 18-6 with just under 18 minutes remaining. 

The Dukes ended the surge with three straight goals, including two by Braverman and one by Hart. The Minutewomen answered with three of the last four goals of the contest for the final margin. 

Hart added a team-high six draw controls while Sydney Reed registered four caused turnovers to pace the Dukes. Alana Piano picked up four ground balls in her first game back in the lineup for Duquesne, as well. 

Stephanie Croke scored a game-high eight points including five goals to lead UMass while Kaitlyn Cerasi had five goals for the Minutewomen.

The Dukes wrap up the home portion of the 2021 spring schedule on Friday, April 23 at 1 p.m. hosting Saint Joseph's at Arthur J. Rooney Field.
