PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne lacrosse team suffered a 21-4 setback at the hands of the Massachusetts Minutewomen on Thursday afternoon at Arthur J. Rooney Field. The Dukes move to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in Atlantic 10 play while UMass improves to 7-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.
KR Costello scored her first career goal to go with an assist in the contest, while
Maddie Hart,
Carlee Braverman and
Jillian Caroselli also scored goals for the Dukes.
Haley Connaughton netted a game-high five goals for UMass.
The Minutewomen jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Braverman found the back of the net for Duquesne. UMass used a 10-0 run to extend its advantage to 14-1, when Hart scored on a free position shot for the Dukes.
The Minutewomen responded with seven straight goals, before Costello netted her first collegiate goal off the assist by
Emelie Curtis with 6:27 remaining. Just over two minutes later, Costello found Caroselli for a goal for Duquesne.
