Dukes Fall at Dayton, vs. Saint Louis

DAYTON, Ohio - The Duquesne men's tennis team traveled to Dayton this weekend, dropping a pair of matches against conference foes Dayton (4-0) and Saint Louis (4-1). 

Dayton 4, Duquesne 0
In doubles play, Alejandro Rodriguez-Vidal and Tamirlan Teberikov gave the Dukes their only victory on the day, with a 7-6(2) win at the first doubles flight. Alex Mascioli and Joey Matthews lost 6-3 at No. 2 doubles, while Kaipo Marshall and Jin Dassanayake lost 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.

Before the match was clinched, Alex Mascioli was leading the Dukes at the second singles flight, leading 6-4, 1-2 before the match was called. Kaipo Marshall was in a tight match at No. 3 singles down 7-5, 4-2 before the match was clinched, and Tamirlan Teberikov was in a similar situation at No. 5 singles, down 7-5, 4-3.

Alejandro Rodriguez-Vidal lost 6-1, 7-6(2) at No. 1 singles, while Jin Dassanayake would lose 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Bode Vance would also fall at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-4.

Saint Louis 4, Duquesne 1
The Dukes would lose the doubles point following a 6-4 loss at No. 1 doubles and 6-3 loss at No. 2 doubles. No. 3 doubles would be called unfinished at 5-5.

Alex Mascioli was able to put the Dukes on the board with a hard fought 7-6, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles.

Jin Dassanayake took the first set, before falling 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.  Kaipo Marshall would lose after a solid comeback in the second set, 6-4, 7-6.  Alejandro Rodriguez-Vidal would lose 6-4, 6-4 at the top flight.

Both Tamirlan Teberikov and Bode Vance would not complete their matches at the fifth and sixth singles flight. Vance lost the first set 6-2, but was up 5-4 in the second.  Teberikov was locked in a tight battle, down 7-6, 5-5.

"We took some tough losses this weekend," said Duquesne Director of Tennis Vanessa Steiner. "Although we competed well, we need to start converting our opportunities in order to start taking strides forward in the conference."

Duquesne returns home to host Saint Joseph's on Saturday, April 3 at 2 p.m. at Alpha Tennis and Fitness of Pittsburgh.
