HUNTINGTON, WV - Duquesne, playing its first road game of the season, led for nearly 30 minutes before Andrew Taylor hit 3-pointer from the corner with 10 seconds left to lift Marshall (5-3) to a 72-71 over the Dukes (3-6) at Cam Henderson Center in Huntington, W.Va. on Saturday night.
Freshman Primo Spears, whose last second drive was denied by the Herd, led the Dukes with a career-high 23 points.
Tre Williams had 14,
Tyson Acuff scored 11 and
Kevin Easley Jr. added 10 for Duquesne, which led for nearly 30 minutes of the game.
Marshall, which missed its first 16 3-point attempts, hit six of its last 10 to pull out the win.
Duquesne went up 71-69 on an Easley Jr. jumper with just under two minutes left. Williams came up with a big block on the next Marshall possession, leading to a
Leon Ayers III 3-point attempt that went in-and-out with just over one minute remaining.
Spears then came up with a steal, but missed a contested foul line jumper at the :17 mark, setting up Marshall's final possession, where Taylor took a pass from Taevion Kinsey, pump faked once, and drilled a 3-pointer from the right corner.
Spears then drove and had his shot from the lane deflected out of bounds by Marko Sarenac as time expired.
Duquesne capitalized on 13 Marshall 3-point misses to take an early 28-11 lead on a Spears 3-pointer.
Marshall put together a 7-0 run, before Acuff, who had eight points off the bench in the first half, hit the second of his career-high three 3-pointers.
Marshall scored the last four points of the half to make it 33-26 through the first 20 minutes.
The Herd briefly pulled to within four before Williams scored twice to help the Dukes go up 43-33.
Marshall, then found its range, hitting a pair from the arc to cut it to 46-43 with just under 12 minutes left.
The Herd took their first lead on a Sarenac 3-pointer with 10:42 to go. Taylor hit the Herd's fourth 3-pointer in just under three one-half minutes to make it 53-49.
Marshall went up 66-60 on another Sarenac 3-pointer.
Spears, who scored 13 in the second half, pulled the Dukes within two on a pair of jumpers.
Ayers III gave the Dukes a 69-68 lead on a shot clock-beating 3-pointer with 2:31 left.
The Dukes will return to Pittsburgh prior to heading to Chicago to face DePaul (6-1) on Tues., Dec. 7 at 8:30 p.m. ET (FS1).
This is the first time since December of 2014 (at Penn State and at Robert Morris) that the Dukes are playing back-to-back non-conference road games.

- Primo Spears' 23 points eclipsed his previous career high of 21 set against American on Nov. 28.
- Tyson Acuff came off the bench to hit a career-high three 3-pointers on his way to 11 points. The point total was one shy of his career high set last year vs. St. Bonaventure at the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
- Duquesne's largest lead was 17 at 28-11 with 5:58 left in the first half ... Marshall's largest lead was six, the last of which came at 68-62 with 4:01 left ... there were three ties and five lead changes before Taylor's 3-pointer gave Marshall the lead for good with 10 seconds left ... Marshall led for 8:02 ... Duquesne led for 29:46.
