PREVIEW: Volleyball at Saint Louis

Dukes close out the 2021 regular-season on the road

PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne volleyball team (12-14, 7-8 A-10) closes out the regular-season on Saturday, Nov. 13 with a visit to Saint Louis (17-10, 10-4 A-10).

The match is slated to start at 8 p.m. (7 p.m. CT) and will broadcast live on ESPN+.

  • Setter Hailey Poling leads the A-10 with 9.89 assists per set and 989 total assists. She established a career-high with 58 assists in a five-set loss to Akron in August.
  • Poling guided the offense to its best statistical weekend of the season. The Dukes matched a then-season's best with a .330 hitting percentage against GW on Friday, before hitting .363 in the team's win over George Mason on Sunday to establish a season-high.
  • Poling is 11 assists away from being the first Duke since Dani Suiter in 2017 to accumulate 1,000 assists in a single season.
  • Summer Slade had another great weekend for the Dukes in the team's wins over GW and George Mason.
  • Slade averaged 4.57 kills and 4.0 digs per set between the two matches and established a new career-high with 22 kills in the four-set win over Mason.
  • The Lancaster, New York native hit .413 in that match – a career-best with more than 30 attacks – and even added a match-high four blocks.
  • She averaged 4.11 kills per set and 2.33 digs per set in matches versus Rhode Island and Fordham the week prior.
  • Slade ranks second on the team and seventh in the A-10 with 3.09 kills per set. She also slots third on the Dukes with 2.60 digs per set.
  • Morgan Kelly averaged 4.86 kills per set and hit .362 in the wins over GW and Mason.
  • Kelly posted 15 kills in the win over GW and paced Slade with 19 in the team's victory over George Mason.

  • Kelly established a career-high with 24 kills on 60 attacks (.217 hitting percentage) in a five-set loss to Akron earlier this season.
  • Middle Hitter Anita Parrott ranks sixth in the A-10 with 0.97 blocks per set. Parrott has matched a career-high with nine blocks twice this season in matches versus Akron and Liberty.

DUQUESNE HEAD COACH STEVE OPPERMAN (Ohio State '87)
  • Steve Opperman enters his 24th season as the head coach of the Dukes in 2021.
  • He owns a career-record of 461-461 and a mark of 342-346 at Duquesne.
  • Opperman collected his 450th-career victory with a 3-0 win over Youngstown State in the season opener.
  • The New Bremen, Ohio native is Duquesne's all-time winningest coach with 342 career victories on The Bluff.
  • He is a four-time Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year (co-2001, co-2004, co-2010 and 2013).
  • Opperman coached the first two AVCA All-Americans in program history, Liz Homan (2010) and Arielle Love (2014).
  • The Ohio State alum has coached 14 First or Second Team A-10 All-Conference players (a total of 22 times).
  • He has coached 22 A-10 All-Rookie Team member.
  • Opperman arrived in Pittsburgh in 1998 after spending seven seasons as the head coach at Wright State, where he amassed a record of 119-116 from 1991-97.

  • Jillian Mattingly leads the A-10 and ranks 33rd in Division I with a .386 hitting percentage. She also paces the team and slots fourth in the league with 1.07 blocks per set.
  • Saint Louis leads the A-10 with 12.59 assists per set. Kate Aupperle tops the team with 7.35 assists per set.
  • SLU ranks second in the A-10 and 29th in Division I with 1.8 service aces per set.
