WASHINGTON, D.C. - Freshman
Toby Okani scored 14 points and
Marcus Weathers added 12 of his 14 points in the second half, as Duquesne used a balanced attack to defeat George Washington (2-7, 1-1), 75-63, in the Dukes' Atlantic 10 opener in Washington, D.C.
With the victory, DU (2-1, 1-0) - which won its final two conference road games of 2019-20 - tied the school record for consecutive A-10 road wins set in 2011.
Amari Kelly added a career-high 13 points and
Michael Hughes and
Tavian Dunn-Martin scored 12 points each for the Dukes.
Okani, Kelly and Dunn-Martin helped the Dukes outscore the GW bench 43-6.
Duquesne, playing its first game since an 81-68 win over UNC Greensboro on Dec. 2, used 12 players in the first 15 minutes in taking a 33-29 halftime lead. Twenty of DU's 33 first-half points came from the bench.
Weathers and Hughes combined for Duquesne's first nine points out of the break to extend the lead to 42-35.
GW cut it to four before Dunn-Martin hit a corner 3-pointer and Weathers scored in the paint to make it a nine-point game.
Okani, who finished 6-of-6 from the field, added another corner 3-pointer to make it 54-44 with 9:40 left.
Duquesne maintained at least a seven-point lead the rest of the way.
The Dukes outshot the Colonials 48 percent to 44 percent. GW, which finished with four assists on 24 field goals, went 3-of-16 from the 3-point arc.
Duquesne assisted on 17 of its 28 field goals led by Hughes and Dunn-Martin with five assists each.
In a program first, Duquesne will play George Washington again tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. (ESPN+) before returning home for Tuesday's home opener vs. Davidson at 7:00 p.m. at La Roche University.
Tuesday's game, which will be the latest home opener in 89 years, will be played without fans in attendance. The game will be televised nationally by CBSSN.

NOTES
- The Dukes tied the school record with their third consecutive Atlantic 10 road win. DU, which has now won five of its past six A-10 road games, finished last season with overtime victories at VCU and St. Bonaventure. The last, and only other, time Duquesne posted three-straight A-10 road wins was in 2011 (at Saint Joseph's, at La Salle and at Fordham).
- Freshman Toby Okani went 6-of-6 from the field, including 2-of-2 from 3-point in scoring 14 points.
- Amari Kelly, who redshirted last season while recovering from a knee injury, came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points in 16 minutes off the bench. His previous high was 11 set vs. Fordham on Jan. 9, 2019. Kelly went 6-of-7 from the field.
- Michael Hughes, who finished with 12 points, five rebounds and three blocks, tied his career high with five assists in 27 turnover-free minutes.
- The win was DU's fourth-straight at GW's Smith Center.
- Twelve Dukes saw action the in the game's first 15 minutes.
- Graduate transfer Ryan Murphy, who joined the Duquesne program on Dec. 11, made his DU debut.
- Duquesne's largest lead was 13 at 75-62 with :14 left ... GW's largest lead was five at 13-8 at the 13:05 mark of the first half ... there was one tie and one lead change before Duquesne took the lead for good on a Toby Okani dunk that made it 15-13 with 11:52 remaining in the first half ... Duquesne led for 31:52 ... GW led for 6:39 ... the game was tied for 1:29.
