FUNCHAL, Portugal – This past weekend, Clube Amigos de Basquete (CAB Maderia) announced the signing of Duquesne alumna Paige Cannon to a professional contract.
Cannon, a 6-1 forward, averaged 9.0 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per contest in 2019-20 and finished her collegiate career with 716 points and 541 rebounds in her career on the Bluff. She started in 85 games during her career, including all 31 her senior season as a co-captain.
"I am so beyond excited to able to join CAB and continue my basketball career," said Cannon. "It is such an honor and I can't wait to get after it again in a couple of months. Thank you to all who have supported me throughout my career and I will continue to give it my best on and off the court!"
A versatile forward, Cannon ranked fourth on the Dukes in scoring, second in rebounding, fifth in assists (37) and second in both steals (30) and blocks (23) last season.
She increased her accuracy and productivity from long 3-point range drastically during her senior season, knocking down 42-of-117 attempts (.359).
CAB Maderia is a member of Portugal-Liga Feminina – the highest level of professional basketball in Portugal. The team is headquartered in Funchal, the largest city and capital of the Autonomous Region of Maderia. Funchal is the sixth-largest city in the country and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Portugal.

Cannon becomes the 18th Duke to sign a professional contract under head coach Dan Burt. She becomes the second Duke from the 2019-20 squad to sign a professional contract, joining Nina Aho who signed a contract with Aluinvent DVTK Miskolc (Hungary) in May. She is the first Duke to play professionally in Portugal.
