NEWARK, Del. - Three Dukes scored multiple goals in a road matchup at Delaware on Wednesday afternoon, but Duquesne (2-3) dropped a 17-8 decision to the host Blue Hens (1-3) at Delaware Stadium.
Rilee Bradshaw,
Carlee Braverman and
Michaela Connolly each found the back of the net twice for the Dukes, while Bradshaw added an assist on the day.
Maddie Hart opened the game with a goal off the assist by Bradshaw before the Blue Hens evened it at 1-1 a minute later. Connolly gave the Dukes a 2-1 lead with a goal on the advantage with just over 20 minutes remaining in the first half.
Delaware would respond with six straight goals and 10 of the next 12 scores to gain an 11-4 edge into the second half.
Bradshaw and Braverman registered back-to-back goals to shrink the deficit to five at 11-6 with 25:16 to play in the second frame. However, this is as close as the Dukes would come down the stretch, as the Blue Hens outscored Duquesne 6-2 the rest of the way en route to their first victory of the season.
Tina St. Clair added a goal and an assist for Duquesne, while Hart recorded a goal, seven draw controls, three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Elizabeth Petrosky dished out a pair of assists for the Dukes and
Kirsten Barnes chipped in an assist, as well.
Kaitlin Rice tallied three caused turnovers and three ground balls on the day.
